Create an SMS Template

To create an SMS template, you should first send it for approval to the Kaleyra support team through your kaleyra.io account. Our support team will verify and approve it. We will send you an email to notify you about the status of your template. In case your template is not approved, you will receive an email with the reason for rejection.

Note:

If you are an Indian customer, ensure that the template you want to create is registered with the DLT portal.

To send an SMS template for approval, perform the following steps:

  1. Sign in to Kaleyra.io account.
    The Channels page appears.
  1. On the SMS card, click Manage.
    The Sender ID tab details appear.
  1. Click the Templates tab.
    The Templates tab details appear.
  1. On the right side of the page, click Add Template.
    The Add Template page appears.

You can add the template using the following options:

Import

The Import tab lets the user upload multiple templates at once using a .csv, .xls, or .xlsx file.

A sample file as a reference for importing template:

The files contain the following fields:

  • Title – The Title for a template. It is recommended to provide a template name that is easy to remember based on the tasks.
  • Purpose – The purpose of the template that is whether it is OTP, Transactional, or Marketing messages
  • Content – The content of the template.
  • Sender_ID – The sender ID of the template. For more information on sender ID, see Create a Sender ID.
  • Template_ID – The unique ID of the template.

Under the Import tab, , perform the following steps:

  1. In the Sender ID field, click the arrow next to the Sender ID field to view the list of approved Sender IDs. You can select one or more Sender IDs to be associated with the template you are requesting. For more information on creating a sender ID, see the Create Sender ID page.
  2. Click Download sample file to download the sample file and make the necessary changes.
  3. You can drag and drop the file OR click the file to upload.

Note:

The template name should be at least 15 characters and only .xls, .csv, or .xlsx format files are supported.

  1. Click Save to import the file. If you want to cancel the import and return to the main page, click Cancel.

Create a New Template

The Create New tab lets the user create a single template.

Under the Create New tab, perform the following steps:

  1. In the Title field, enter a Title to the SMS template.
  2. In the Purpose field, click the arrow next to the Purpose field to view the list. Select for which type of SMS communication you want this template to be available.

Note:

For customers in the Indian region, the available SMS Types for which you can create a template are OTP, Transactional (TXN), Transactional DND (TXND), and Marketing (MKT). For Europe, America, and Singapore regions, only OTP and Default (to be used for Marketing and Transactional) message types are available.

  1. In the Sender ID field, click the arrow next to the Sender ID field to view the list of your Sender ID. Select the Sender ID. For more information on creating a sender ID, see the Create Sender ID page.
  2. In the Template ID field, enter the Template ID. This is the template ID from the DLT Platform. This field is mandatory only for businesses based in India.
  3. Enter the content of the template in the given space which is a mandatory field. The following are the additional available options:
    • To create a Media Template, click Attach File and browse to the location on your computer to upload a media file.
    • To embed a shortened hyperlink as part of the SMS template, click Insert Link, type the URL you want to shorten, and click Save to save the shortened URL.

Note:

The attached media and inserted links are automatically converted to shortened URLs.

  1. Click Save to add new template.

A confirmation message “Template Created Successfully” appears. You can view the created templates and its status in the Templates tab.
