Understanding SMS Summary Reports

An SMS Summary Report contains the following sections:

Overall Totals

Once you generate an SMS summary report, you can view the following details in the Overall Totals section:

Column name

Description

SMS Sent

Displays the total number of SMS sent during the period.

Units Sent

Displays the total SMS units sent during the period. When you send a long SMS message, the message is split into multiple units and is recombined at the receiving end. Each unit is charged as a separate message.

Units Charged

Displays the total number of SMS units charged during the period. You are charged for all the SMS units submitted to the Operator.

Units Refunded

Displays the total number of SMS units refunded during the period. Some messages get automatically refunded based on the Status Trace returned by the Operator.

Units Billable

Displays the total number of billable SMS units during the period, calculated as:
Units Charged minus Units Refunded.

Subtotal
(only if non-refundable Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) fees are present)

Displays the total amount charged, without any DLT fees excluded from refunds. Calculated as:
Amount Billed minus Non Refundable DLT Fees.

Non Refundable DLT Fees
(only if non-refundable DLT fees are present)

Displays the total amount of DLT Fees excluded from refunds.
For each refund, Indian Telecom operators keep a DLT scrubbing fee of INR 0.025.

Amount Billable

Displays the final billable amount during the period, calculated as:
Total Amount Charged minus Total Amount Refunded
If non-refundable fees are present, this amount will also be equal to:
Subtotal plus DLT Scrubbing Charges.

Detailed Totals

The Detailed Totals section contains the following reports:

  1. A report aggregated by Sender ID.
  2. A report aggregated by Status Trace. For more information about Status Traces, see SMS Status Codes.

The metrics shown in these reports are the same as the ones described above.
